Plans for the
World Walks for Water and Sanitation in India!
P. Rajamohan Reddy is Project Manager for Modern Architects for Rural India (MARI-India), a non governmental organization in India implementing a WASH sector People Centered Advocacy programme. Here he talks about his organisation’s plans for the World Walks for Water and Sanitation 2012:
Every year MARI responds to the global call for water and sanitation with the participation of 3000 to 4000 people. This year too, MARI has planned to organise the World Walks for Water and Sanitation across 18 villages with more than 5000 people. School children, women, men and elders will be participating in the walk and will walk for 5 to 6 hours every day from 15th March to 22nd March 2012.
Throughout the walk, people will be raising their voices about the water and sanitation issues respective areas and demanding that local political leaders and ministers keep their promises written in policy documents. Local government officials, political leaders, school teachers, CSO leaders and Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) will be attending.
MARI is going to use this opportunity to create awareness on WASH issues through cultural programs, public announcements, distribution of reading materials and pamphlets and the use of local media.
Why not follow MARI's example and join the World Walks for Water and Sanitation to get your voices heard?
